TV SHOW REVIEW: Why So Much Of Toilet Humour in Comedy Nights Bachao Taaza Despite Of The Fresh Starry Cast?

Comedy Nights Bachao Taaza aired its first episode with the cast of Tutak Tutak Tutiya – Prabhudeva, Sonu Sood and Navraj Hans (singer of Rail Gaddi from Tutak Tutak Tutiya, son of Hans Raj Hans and son-in-law of Daler Mehendi) minus Tamanna. Did it impress me? Well read on.

Talking about the ‘Taaza’ factor of the show, well, it did have the freshness of a new season, but what surprised me was that the toilet humour continued even in the revamped version.

While Bharti & Krushna are said to be taking a back seat in the new season, the flavour of their sub-standard humour was quite evident in the opening episode.

Coming to the cast, as SpotboyE told you earlier about the second season’s pairings (Meet The Taaza Cast Of Comedy Nights Bachao, September 25) the fresh starry (Ssharad Malhotra, Nia Sharma, Amruta Khanvilka, Sumeet Vyas and Aditi Bhatia) and non-starry faces (Manan Desai and Balraj Syal) did leave an impressive mark on the show.

I didn’t mention Pammi Aunty aka Ssumier Pasricha’s name as she is the surprise package of the show. And let me tell you, in coming episodes, I think I might change channel once Pammi Aunty leaves. Ssumier as Pammi Aunty has power to entertain audience because of his comic timings which he can hold the viewer’s attention single-handedly.

The first episode was more of an introductory session, the kind we have in colleges when the juniors try to impress the seniors with their act during a fresher’s party.

After each act the filmi guests had to compliment the new joinees, which came as a forced one as we are not seeing any talent hunt show. Must say, though a lot (toned down) jokes were cracked on the celebs, they gave it back to the contestants. The makers tried to balance the roast and I had more fun when the contestants were being made fun of. Coz, come on! Krushna and Bharti have roasted celebs for a year, its high time they had a taste of their own medicine. It’s just a roast after all.

Mona Singh, as the anchor held her own and didn’t leave any opportunity to show Krushna, Bharti and Sudesh their jagah. I mean their contestants’ seats.

Here what I felt about the fresh faces:

Aditi Bhatia: This 16-yr-old of Yeh Hai Mohabbatein fame gave a solid performance against her paired veterans – Sudesh Uncle and Krushna Bhaiya. Best line: Mummy ne kahan hai kude (Sudesh) ko haath nahi lagana chahiye, kyu kude to kachrawala (Krushna) saaf karta hai.

Amruta Khanvilkar: This Marathi Mulgi performed with full confidence but felt she lacked good punch lines. Not so best line: (Pointing towards Manan) Tumhari aankhein dekh ke lag raha hai medhak ko fasi chadhaya hai.

Manan Desai: Gujarat’s Internet sensation might be new on television but didn’t let Amruta snatch the limelight. Best line: Mujhe laga Amrita – Rao ya Arora milegi but mili yeh Khanvilkar. Naam zyada baar bolo to jeebh chhil jayega.

Nia Sharma: This television actress made a sexy entry. That’s it. Best line: I can’t recall.

Ssharad Malhotra: He was funny with an attitude, which was meant for his act. Best line: He didn’t have any.

Balraj Syal: This self-confessed King of Auditions had the best one-liners of the lot. One of the many best lines: Sharad chahe Kelkar ho ya Kapoor, kissi ki career 2 saal se zyada nahi chalti.

Sumeet Vyas: Mikesh of Permanent Roommates definitely hit a six with his opening act. However I feel he should hold his own rather than staying under shadow of Bharti. Best line: (On call with his mummy)Bharti ko left, right, centre kidhar se bhi dekho gol hi lagti hai.

Summing up, I wish the toilet humour toned down a bit at least in this new season. Rest, glad about the fact that this time the contestants said ‘Bachaaooo’!
